      DESCRIPTION

The John Lofgren Bootmaker Ludlow boots were inspired by United States Navy officer Augustus Ludlow. Ludlow street in NYC, famous for its art and music scene is named after him. The renowned barber shop Ludlow & Blunt also uses his name. It was to Lieutenant Ludlow that Captain Lawrence on the USS Chesapeake during the ship's fight with HMS Shannon the immortal words, "Don't give up the ship" were spoken. We're confident Lieutenant Ludlow and the Quartermaster Board would approve of his namesake being used on these boots. Like all our footwear, the uppers are beautifully executed by a master Japanese craftsman that has been sewing our uppers from the very beginning. And of course, all our footwear is completely built in Japan using parts manufactured only in the USA, Japan, England, France, Germany and Italy. JLB is a brand that you can actually be proud to wear.

Our exceptional horsebutt leather originates from the renowned Shinki Hikaku tannery in Japan, a distinguished expert in the art of horsehide leather tanning, widely regarded as one of the finest in the world. When you first experience this leather, you may notice a slight initial stiffness, but rest assured, it swiftly molds and conforms to your foot for exceptional comfort. What truly sets this leather apart is its captivating visual allure, consistently presenting a fascinating grain pattern to captivate your gaze. Shinki Hikaku's dedication to preserving the natural character of the hide is evident, as very minimal, if any, surface correction is performed. This approach allows the authentic marks acquired by the horse during its life, such as those from bug bites or encounters with a sharp tree branch, to remain subtly visible. These imperfections are not blemishes but rather cherished enhancements, enriching the narrative of these exquisite hides.
