Goodyear Welt Construction, Shank & Cork
The strength of our footwear lies in its foundation. We use time-honored Goodyear welt construction to create a durable, weather-resistant bond between upper and sole. Inside, a steel shank and cork filling provide structure, support, and a custom fit that improves with every wear. It's the hidden craftsmanship that makes all the difference.

Goodyear Welt Construction
Goodyear welt construction is a time-honored method that forms the foundation of durable, rebuildable footwear. During this process, the upper, still shaped around the last, is stitched to a rib on the insole using a lockstitch through the welt. Though hidden from sight, this stitching is critical: it’s what binds the upper and insole together, creating a stable, supportive structure. This traditional construction method is one of the keys to the long-term comfort, strength, and repairability that define a truly great pair of boots or shoes.

Shank and Cork
To support the foot and enhance long-term comfort, each pair is fitted with a metal shank and a natural cork filling, both installed by skilled hands with years of experience. The shank provides critical arch support and structure, while the cork gradually molds to the unique shape of the wearer’s foot, creating a truly personalized fit over time. We use genuine cork, not synthetic substitutes like Puron, because cork offers superior breathability, resilience, and natural shock absorption. This traditional approach strengthens the foundation of the footwear, improving both comfort and durability with every step.
