Horween Leather CXLSend us an email if your size isn't currently available.
The John Lofgren Bootmaker Boondockers are a faithful reproduction of the classic WWII U.S. Navy N-1 Field Shoes. Issued beginning in 1943, the N-1 was designed for sailors and Marines in the Pacific theater who needed tough, versatile footwear. The roughout leather uppers and rubber soles made them durable, practical, and well-suited to the rugged conditions of war. The nickname “Boondocker” originates from bundok, a Tagalog word meaning “mountain” or “remote area,” which was adopted by American servicemen during the Philippines campaign.
Our version pays homage to the originals while being crafted with uncompromising modern quality control standards. Built in Japan, they feature Horween roughout leather uppers, painted brass eyelets, and authentic proportions. The last was made from an original pair of Boondockers. The soles and heels are also WWII-style JL Bootmaker originals, manufactured in Japan, and designed to echo the original WWII versions in John's archive. The result is a boot that embodies history, quality, and the enduring spirit of the U.S. Navy’s iconic N-1 Field Shoe.
